PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Responsible for strategic sourcing management, supplier negotiations and contracting, supplier management and assuring supply to all locations within FMCNA’s laboratories. The scope of this position will be across a variety of direct and indirect goods, materials and services, in support of the laboratory business. Ensures alignment of procurement strategies. Directs the planning, organization and operation of the Procurement & Materials Management business unit function towards the successful achievement of corporate policies and objectives, and the cost-effective acquisition and utilization of the company’s material resources.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Overall responsibility for the effectiveness of operating groups within the Procurement & Materials Management area including, but not limited to the following activities:

- Direct and indirect sourcing and procurement for all laboratory needs, plus unit supplies for clinics

- Distribution operations covering warehousing, inventory control and customer shipments

- Inventory management to ensure proper inventory levels and timeliness of deliveries

- Leading process / key performance indicator reviews and improvement efforts

- Working with Corporate Treasury and Procurement on ‘lease’ arrangements

• Establishes and leads teams that strategically manage direct and indirect spend of ~$100M annually by utilizing a proven sourcing process that engages stakeholders, aligns business objectives, and ensures supply continuity. Leverages supplier capabilities to meet the near and long-term needs of the business. Ensures robust supplier selection (including qualification of alternative sources, supply base rationalization programs and other relevant strategies to optimize the supply base), diligent management of supplier relationships and performance issues, and innovative thinking on supplier capability. Investigates and leverages corporate contracts for major supplies and/or services used across the company.

• Directs team in preparing requests for proposals for assigned materials/ services, performing proposal analysis (including price analyses, “Should Cost” modeling, benchmarking, etc.), developing cost targets for negotiations, negotiation strategy, and developing and negotiating supply agreements.

• Directs team in leveraging suppliers, trends and new/emerging technologies to add value for stakeholders and drive cost savings and efficiencies

• Supports implementation and/or upgrades of procedures and systems (e.g. SAP, SAP Ariba) in all aspects of Procurement & Materials Management.

• Measures quality of procurement performance through metrics and feedback from constituent customer groups and aligned FMCNA Procurement standards. Develop, maintain, promote, and distribute key performance indicators to ensure continuous improvement.

• Develops and measures KPI’s, supplier audits, business reviews, improvement plans, new opportunities, awards, terminations, etc., including savings tracking and ongoing reports and communication to management and stakeholders.

• In collaboration with Corporate Procurement, develops, directs and reports annual cost savings programs and project pipelines, aligning with stakeholders’ strategic priorities that directly affect company financials and growth plans and generate progressive year-over-year cost reductions, across laboratory business locations.

• Implements company-wide policies and practices appropriate for the function.

• Devises methods and policies ensuring the most efficient and economical movement of materials in and out of the laboratories. Maintains liaison among laboratories, sales divisions and warehouses to provide efficient customer delivery service.

• Remains current with new developments relative to materials and supplies, and makes recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve methods. Provides strategic leadership of short- and long-term goals through the use of thoughtful techniques in the communication of the company’s mission and core values as a means to implement positive change and/or create organizational structure within the assigned business unit.

• Ensures that budgets and schedules are within company requirements with significant organizational responsibility for the overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, expense priority management, and recommendations and implementation changes of current methods.

• Reviews and complies with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations. • Provides leadership, guidance and coaching for all direct reports to maintain an engaged and productive workforce; partnering with Human Resources on employee matters. Collaborates with employees in the establishment of clear and concise development plans to ensure succession planning and the advancement of future leaders within the organization.

• Regularly interacts with executives, senior management, and/or major customers. Interactions frequently require special skills such as negotiating or influencing customers and/or senior level leaders in matters of significance to the organization.

SUPERVISION:

• May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Procurement & Materials Management staff.

 

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s Degree required; concentration in supply chain management preferred; MBA or Advanced Degree preferred

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• 6+ years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 3+ years’ experience as a Manager; or 3+ years’ experience in a senior managerial role.

• Demonstrated experience managing one or more departments.

• Prior experience with executing strategic sourcing processes

• Project management skills

• Strong management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
