Job Description

The Engineering, Science, and Technology (EST) Business Intelligence team is responsible for analysis, reporting and forecasting on all aspects of EST performance, including, but not limited to project portfolio management, goals, and objectives, strategic alignment, performance metrics, etc.. The team enables all EST functions and teams to understand and forecast operational performance and to make better-informed decisions on project portfolio prioritization and optimization.

The primary customer of the Business Intelligence team is the DePuy Synthes Engineering Excellence (strategy) + Innovation community, who require ongoing reports and insights to improve operational, project portfolio and project pipeline performance.

We are now recruiting for an Engineering Business Intelligence Manager to be part of this team, the person on this role will have will be responsible for:

Enabling innovative strategic decision making

  • Use analytical tools and techniques to understand, predict, & improve operational and project performance across EST.
  • Gather & analyze data to solve complex problems & evaluate scenarios, making predictions on future outcomes.
  • Balance a hands-on approach with the ability to work through others to deliver rapid, high-quality analysis on a broad range of topics.
  • Partner with colleagues across the J&J network to identify, integrate, & analyze additional data sets to enable innovative decision making.

Developing theorganization’sanalytics capability

  • Accelerate the development and delivery of the Make Pillar’s Analytics Strategy & Roadmap.
  • Lead the delivery of a best-in-class analytical capability, encompassing technology & people.
  • Drive engagement with technology partners to deliver solutions that enable improved decision making.
  • Identify & leverage resources (internal & external) to accelerate & scale analytical capability.
  • Support the development of a learning organisation through mentoring.

Analytics leadership

  • Provide analytical coaching & mentoring across all levels in the organisation.
  • Connect & influence commercial, supply chain, & analytical stakeholders across the enterprise.



  • Business analysis experience, using data to understand and tackle real world problems.
  • Knowledge of statistical methodologies e.g. regression modeling.
  • Subject matter expertise in data analysis and visualization.
  • Effective leadership, including coaching, mentoring, and training others.
  • Comfortable with large data sets, data manipulation, and data cleansing.
  • Project Management skills: organizing, planning, influencing, inspiring, feedback, delivery.
  • Highly Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Statistics/Mathematics, Computer Science, BIS, Engineering, Finance/Business or a related field.


  • Financial acumen.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt.
  • Past experience in consulting and developing recommendations from complex analysis.
  • MBA or Masters/PhD in related field.
  • Exposure to SQL, Python, R, PowerQuery, or similar.
  • Experience of working with Business Intelligence tools e.g. Qlik, PowerPivot, or Tableau.
